Appearance

•  Bees usually have hairy bodies
•  Their sizes range from 5-15mm.
•  Bumble bees and Carpenter bees are larger insects with black bodies and patches of yellow hairs.

Lifecycle

•  They are social insects with three types of individuals in each colony: queen, worker and drone. Only one queen exists in each hive and the rest of the colony is workers that forage for food.
•  The drones are large and buzz ferociously but their only function is to mate with the virgin queens, after whichthey are not permitted to return to the hive.
•  They undergo complete metamorphosis

Habits

•  Honey bees live in large colonies with 20 000 - 80 000 members.
•  They are beneficial insects due to its role as a pollinator.
•  Their sting might cause allergic reaction in certain people.
