White Tailed Spiders

Lampona murina

Appearance

•  White-tailed spider females are up to 18 mm long, males up to 12 mm.
•  Grey to brown body with distinctive white patch on the end of the abdomen

Lifecycle

•  They make temporary silk retreats and spin disc-shaped egg sacs, each containing up to 90
•  Females guard they eggs until it hatches in three weeks.
•  They produce once a year

Habits

•  White-tailed spider females are up to 18 mm long, males up to 12 mm.
•  They live in gardens and houses, beneath bark and rocks, in leaf litter and so on.
•  Most active at night, they hunt for other spiders.
•  White-tailed spiders do bite people but will only bite if handled or provoked.
