White Tailed Spider
Lampona murina
Appearance
- White-tailed spider females are up to 18 mm long, males up to 12 mm.
- Grey to brown body with distinctive white patch on the end of the abdomen.
Lifecycle
- They make temporary silk retreats and spin disc-shaped egg sacs, each containing up to 90
- Females guard they eggs until it hatches in three weeks.
- They produce once a year.
Habits
- They live in gardens and houses, beneath bark and rocks, in leaf litter and so on.
- Most active at night, they hunt for other spiders.
- White-tailed spiders do bite people but will only bite if handled or provoked.
